In this practice, from The Valentine's Immersion 2022, John leads couples through the 3 Stages of relating - from the playful, primal energy of a sexy “Tinder” date, to more a loving, heart-centered connection, and then to an experience of Divine Love.
For this practice:
David Deida identifies 3 Stages of relating. The first stage is all about self - what you want, what you need, what will serve you in the moment. This stage can include our more primal desires. In the second stage, our focus moves from ourselves to others. In this stage there is a natural desire to be generous and share with our partners - to give and receive in beautiful ways. The third stage is about the Divine. When we move into the third stage, the desire is to liberate love, to experience love as sacred.
Before beginning partner exercises, especially those that involve working with polarity and sexual energy, it’s always a good idea to take a few minutes to discuss your needs, desires, and boundaries with your partner. If you need to pause at any point during the practice, simply raise your right hand. This is a cue for your partner to come to stillness and breathe with you. Take as much time as you need. If or when you feel connected with yourself and your partner, you can lower your hand and resume the practice.
Begin this practice facing your partner, preferably seated on cushions on the floor. John will offer guidance and suggestions on ways to embody each of the 3 stages. Each partner will have an opportunity to receive praise and feedback. This practice often ends with both partners feeling more permission to experience and express their more primal desires and new ways of offering them as sacred gifts.
