Three Part Breath and The Pelvic Rock
45m
In this practice, from the February Valentine's Immersion 2021, John leads the Masculine into a Three Part Breath and Pelvic Rock practice to assist in bringing more breath into the body in order to deepen the connection to the body, earth and one's own consciousness.
To begin:
You will begin lying on the ground. You can use a thin pillow or no pillow to support your head and neck but nothing too big. You do not want your throat to collapse during the practice. Connect with the ground and allow the back of your body to get very heavy and let your bones, heart and sacrum feel pulled down by gravity into the earth. Let everything sink and settle to the back of your body. Find a breath that is natural to begin with and see if you can feel behind you into the earth. Practice letting the back of your body feel down into the earth connecting to that pulse and magnetism of the planet. Then you will bring your arms straight up pointing to the ceiling like you are plugging your fingers into the sky and then you will bring your legs up doing the same as your arms. You are making a "U" with your body. Then you will begin the breath with your mouth closed through the nose, lifting everything, lifting your chest up and bringing all your awareness to your navel. Let the navel get activated. The navel is the force of your power. The warrior in you lives in the navel. Wake it up!
From here, you will lower your body back to the floor, with the soles of your feet on the ground rooted into the earth and your knees in the air. Once you feel your body connecting to the earth, you will begin a deep belly breath, expanding only your belly as you breathe. Try to keep your ribcage and upper body still as you breath into your lower belly.
Then you’ll add a pelvic rock to the breath. As you breathe in, your sacrum tips up toward the back of your head. As you exhale, your naval comes toward your spine, your sacrum drops, and you finish with a micro thrust. Bring in a full “warrior” breath that is committed, fierce, and intentional. Make a sound from your lower abdomen while exhaling.
While continuing the deep belly breath, begin to add a breath centered in your solar plexus that expands your ribcage.
Once this pattern is well established, you’ll begin to bring the breath all the way up to your chest, beginning first in the belly, then solar plexus, and then chest up to the shoulders.
As you exhale, you’ll begin in the chest, move down to the solar plexus, and finally into the belly with the pelvic rock.
Let the earth feed this breath so you can go even deeper.
Remember, this is an active breath that may have you sweating. Feel the energy of the forest, ocean, and rivers moving through you.
Use this breath to set an intention: What do you want to bring your breath, awareness, and focus to in the world?
From here, continue your breath in a more subtle way and let go of the pelvic rock.
Now, bring your awareness to the breath and also to the part of you that is witnessing this all happening. The part of you that is aware of your own breath.
From here, you’ll slowly stand up into a “horse stance,” with feet hip-width apart and at a 45-degree angle and drop your seat 2-4 inches.
Now, bring your right hand down toward your pelvis, with your palm facing down into the earth. Your right hand, with fingers pointing toward the sky, is in front of your heart.
Bring back the 3-part breath through your nose. Start with belly, then solar plexus, then chest. And breathing out beginning with chest, then solar plexus, then belly.
Feel your feet pressing into the earth. Then feel your legs, and then your genitals rooting into the earth while you continue your 3-part breath.
Focus on what you are intentional about: Your relationship, your mission, etc.
Have this pose inspire you as you ground into the earth.
Press your left palm into your heart, feeling the rooted, solid ground that you are. Feel your heart expand past your body.
Get fierce with this pose, making a commitment through your own sounds, emanating from the core of your body.
Bring your right hand behind your left hand, close to your heart, making fists with thumbs on the outside.
Throw 6 left-right combination punches.
Open your palms, feeling the energy moving through your body and becoming aware of where in your life you need to get fierce and take a stand.
Throw 6 more left-right combination punches, making a sound from your navel each time.
Now consolidate this energy with your 3-part breath, compacting it into the center of your body.
Give yourself a bow as you bring this practice to a close.
