In this October office hours session, John Wineland opens with reflections on Venus retrograde as a collective invitation to revisit early love imprints and do the deeper relational work that daily life tends to defer.
Truth is the foundation of intimacy, but only when delivered open-heartedly.
Closed-hearted truth can be cutting; without truth, two people are just patterns relating. Unconditional love has the power to shift a partner’s state.
The capacity to open someone’s heart is always available; we rarely use it because we’re caught in our own reactions. The body leads the way.
Life conditions cannot change while the body holds the shape of closure
Relaxing the body, changing the breath, and orienting toward openness shifts belief systems from the inside out. “Your life condition changes with the shape of your body”.
Practice: pay attention to the shape of your body throughout the call; notice if it reflects love energy (feminine) or grounded infinite consciousness (masculine).
Question: Why does perceived disrespect cause closure, and how to navigate it?
John’s response:
Identify what you actually want from the interaction, and own it clearly
Two levers govern almost every moment: strength of intention and quality of energy. Train the nervous system to take bold social chances; boldness is a muscle, not a trait.
Assignment for next month: at least 3 bold social acts, e.g. complimenting a stranger sincerely, getting someone to dance with you in a public place.
Question: why is this wound still so raw after so much work?
John’s response: Solo therapeutic work and relational moments unlock different layers; the deepest tendrils of a wound surface only in live open-hearted connection.
The ego compounds pain by insisting the wound should already be gone.
Practice: own the truth fully, “I’m still more messed up around this than I think I should be, no problem” Owning that truth liberates life force; judging it constricts it. Sensitivity to betrayal and abandonment, when owned honestly, is magnetic, not a weakness.
Question: as both partners open to love and sexual energy with others in practice containers, what keeps the relationship sacred?
John’s response: Training deepens capacity; the goal is to bring that expanded capacity home. Set clear, honest expectations, even irrational ones, and negotiate from there. The 80% rule: give fully in practice, but hold the last 20% for your partner.
Saying “I don’t want to hold you back, go as deep as you can” when you don’t mean it does not work.
Suggested approach: alternate years in training (she goes one year, he goes the next), then both go together when the child is older.
Question: which 1 or 2 practices will help him move from intellectual understanding to embodied response?
John’s response: The path is intellectual knowledge, then experiential knowledge, then embodied knowledge; it takes repetition and time
In the moment of closure, use a three-part truth structure:
State intention: “I want to be here with you”
Name what is arising: “I notice the part of me that’s afraid and wants to run”
Make a request: “Can you say that a little differently? Can we soften together?”
If escalation continues, step away briefly rather than override and explode
Start with one masculine practice from the ERE platform, do it for a few days, then move to the next 10 to 15 minutes a day of breathwork and meditation; incremental progress stacks into a foundation. Strong recommendation to attend EMLT for nervous system training in community with other men.
Question: how to say a loving no when the feminine pull to continue feels so real, and how to care for his own aching feminine afterward?
John’s response:
The feminine does not care about leaving it on the mat; that is its nature, not a manipulation. Yielding erodes trust over time, even if it feels good in the moment; she trusts you less when you succumb. The loving response is not a no to her but a yes to integrity: “That was beautiful, and the right thing for us is to leave it on the mat”. To care for the aching feminine afterward: give it a 5 to 10 minute intentional container, a song, arms in the air, let it fully express, then bow and move on
Honoring it in a container prevents it from leaking out sideways.
Question: what would John need to trust him more, and would John coach him through this?
John’s response:
Coaching inquiries go through Jen or Britt. Marco feels clear and grounded in this moment, but John cannot evaluate teaching skill without having felt him in a container. Foundation of any program must come from personal practice, not concepts.
Suggested approach: spend 30 days each in depth, integrity, and purpose as lived daily practices before March. Bring a map of those practices to next month’s call for feedback.
Question: she spoke her truth about money for the first time, it went beautifully, but now fears he cannot support her; what is she setting herself up for?
John’s response:
She actually feels good when she is in truth; the discomfort comes from not fully stating what she wants.
Make the request clearly: “I want us to move in together”
Continue speaking truth and expectations; do not make any decisions yet.
Surrender to the unknown, but stay honest about what you want and how you feel, then let love handle it.
