Grief is one of the most challenging emotional landscapes to be with. Once you allow yourself to feel it fully, it can become ungrounding and seem never ending.
This is a practice originally given to John by his teacher, Sofia Diaz, to help him express the grief of losing his daughter in a grounded, supported way. She guided him to do the practice in nature because it is particularly potent to give your grief and sadness to the earth, but this is a version you can do at home.
John, first, guides you through a QiGong Tree of Life exercise and then moves you into an embodiment practice in which you express grief from your belly and solar plexus, which is a deeper space than most of us often express from.
Set-up a mat, rug or sheepskin to practice on and prepare to play the mantra "Ardas Bhaee" by Simrit. You will begin standing for the QiGong exercise, in which you will swing your arms and light fists to contact various parts of the body, and then John will guide you to start the music and then move into Child's Pose on your mat.
If you are seeking a practice to do anytime you feel sad or grief-stricken, this 14-minute practice will be supportive.
